MEET
Mary Nelson

I grew up dancing ballet and galloping my pony through the fields of upstate New York. Later in life, I spent ten years riding my horse Kodi competitively throughout the Northeast. I found Pilates important for core conditioning and hip flexibility. I was lucky to have a trainer come to the barn weekly, and it improved my ability to communicate with my horse. I began to take classes regularly outside of the barn.
Although becoming hooked on Pilates early in life, a career in teaching and parenting kept me busy, and I stopped taking care of myself physically. Although I still “looked okay”, I didn’t have the strength and flexibility I once had. Adding insult to injury, I suffered a serious riding injury in my late 40s, which left me physically and emotionally broken.
Fortunately, this setback led me back to the Pilates studio. It was there that my passion for Pilates was reignited. Starting my certification journey allowed me to combine my love of teaching with Pilates—a perfect mix!
I invite you to give Pilates a try! You can find me at various studios throughout Fairfield and New Haven Counties, book a private session in your home, or grab some friends and host a Personal Pilates Party(R) at your home or office!
Mission
Your Pilates journey should be personal. We all have different experiences, strengths, and goals. Whether you’re trying a mat class for the very first time, starting over after an injury, or looking for a power reformer session- Your Personal Pilates will design a class to meet your needs. Don’t be intimidated by the perfect bodies and impossible acrobatics you see on social media. A basic mat class can be incredibly challenging and is the ideal entrance point for a first session. Pilates is the perfect low-impact platform for strength, stability, and flexibility. I aim to create clients who embrace Pilates for the rest of their lives!
